We slept and ate our breakfast and dinner each day in the town of San Martin. This small town is the center of activity for many of the local villages, such as the one where we are working (which is about 15 miles away).
A look at San Martin from the roof of the hotel where we are staying:
We stayed in a small, family-owned hotel. It was 'a little different' than what one might think of when asked to describe a hotel or motel in America. Here is a video of one of the rooms. It is interesting to note that the toilets could not flush toilet paper--so we had to throw used paper away in the small trash can next to the toilet.
The 'lobby' of the hotel, the owner, and a view down the street into San Martin. One night I woke up because a dirt bike came to park inside the hotel, directly outside of the window to my room. Remember I said it was 'a little different.'
Walking down the street to breakfast:
'Market day' occurs every Sunday and Thursday in San Martin. As you can see, the city becomes full of activity, as people from the local villages (like Naranjito) come to sell items and buy the things that they might need. Everything was sold at the market: Clothes, school supplies, tools, crops, live chickens, dead chickens, and even 'miracle cures.'
